What are common household hazards for kittens?

Wild cats use their sense of smell and taste to check rotten food, and are cautious about unfamiliar things. While your kitten may share these instincts, her natural curiosity is sometimes bound to get her in trouble. With some love and extra care, you can help your feline friend avoid potential dangers. Do ensure you kitten-proof your home as well before you welcome your mischievous little bundle.

Store away safely

  • It’s better to prevent accidents. Store all your cleaning liquids, medicines, paints, and poisons out of your kitten’s reach.
  • Keep doors to lofts, safety doors, and cupboards shut.

Be alert

  • Cats hide if they're ill or injured. Keep track of her whereabouts.
  • Symptoms of poison vary widely from unusual tiredness to paralysis, shivering and cramps, as well as diarrhoea, nausea and vomiting. In case of emergencies, contact your vet immediately.
  • If your kitten does show signs of poisoning, take her straight to the vet. If you know what the poison is, take the product with you and show it to your vet.
