Before your kitten arrives, make sure you have everything you need to help her settle in calmly and happily. If you have children, or another pet, then you’ll need to make careful and gentle introductions.
Silence is golden!
Try to keep the house as quiet as possible. Don't be surprised if she appears timid at first – she'll soon be curious enough. Just be patient, and wait for your kitten to come to you, she eventually will!
Picking up your kitten
Get your new little kitten used to being picked up. Always gently scoop her up, while supporting her back legs and then use one arm to support her weight – that way you can gently stroke her with your free hand. However, as soon as she wants to get down, let her down as gently as you can.
Introducing your kitten to other cats
If you already have a cat in your home, it’s important to handle introductions carefully. Gently rub your new kitten with an old piece of your clothing – something that holds your smell. The familiar scent will help the new kitten be more easily accepted. Do ensure both the cat and kitten have their own food bowls, beds, and litter trays.
